CTMA Youth Festival - Utsav 2023
Last date: Sunday 4 June 2023, 6pm

Literary Competitions on 25 June at Chennai/Coimbatore.
Arts Competitions on 8 & 9 July at Chennai.

  1. The Utsav is organizing for the children and youth of the CTMA member associations. Whoever would like to participate can submit the entry forms in each category through their association who is member of CTMA.
  2. The Utsav is to showcase the talent of the young Malayalee artists who permanently stayed in state of Tamilnadu.
  3. An association can nominate only one participant for each event. One person can participate in a maximum of four individual events and only two group events.
  4. Competition for Utsav 2023 will be held in four groups. Age 7 to 12 is categorized as “SUB JUNIOR”, age 13 to 17 is categorized as “JUNIOR”, age 18 to 23 is categorized as a “SENIOR” group and age 24 to 45 is categorized as “SUPER SENIOR”. Age will be calculated as of 01-06-2023.
  5. Prizes and certificates will be issued to First, Second and Third place winners. Participation certificates will be issued to all participants.
  6. The CTMA Ever-rolling Trophy will be awarded to the member association who wins the championship with the highest number of points from the three categories like sub-junior, junior and senior. In addition to this, separate trophies will be presented to associations scoring Second and Third places. The period for the ever-rolling trophy is 3 years.
  7. Participant who got the highest points from both Junior and Senior categories will be awarded “Pravasi Kalaprathibha” to Male and “Pravasi Kalathilakam” to Female. To considering this awards, the contestant must score points from individual events like Music or Dance or Acting. In addition to this, the constant must score grade at least 3 events which he/she participated.
  8. The final point will be calculated by adding the points obtained by the grade along with the points obtained by the first, second and third placers in the order of 3, 2 and 1. Member associations will also get points in the same way.
  9. Grading will not be done for events scoring less than 50% of marks. Items scoring 50% or more are graded in three grades A, B and C.
  10. Minimum of 3 contestants should be there to make an event as a competition. In the case of any event, there are only one or two contestants, the event will be held and marks and grades will be awarded. If the contestants are less than three, only grade points will be added to winners and their associations.
  11. Boy and Girl participants scoring the highest points in Sub Junior category will be specially awarded by “Pravasi Bala Kalaprathibha” and “Pravasi Bala Kalathilakam” respectively.
  12. Male and Female contestant scoring the highest points in Super Senior junior category will be awarded by “Pravasi Super Senior Kalaprathibha” and “Pravasi Super Senior Kalathilakam” respectively.
  13. In case of any tie in points for these awards, decision will be taken based on the more 1st prizes and grades bagged by the contestants.
  14. Songs or Background music for Dance items, Fancy dress, Tableau and Drama are to be recorded in pen drive and need to bring to the venue. The pen drive should only contain a song or audio for only the particular event. The pen drive should be handed over to the respective stage managers 30 minutes before the commencement of the competition. Compact Discs will not be accepted.
  15. Instrumental/Background Music/Pen drive is not allowed for Light Music, Patriotic Songs, Group song, Folk song, Mono act, Mimicry competitions.
  16. No birds or animals are allowed on stage to support originality or presentation purpose.
  17. Presentation and staging of all competitions, especially
  18. Fancy dress, tableau, drama etc. toe performed within the stage which is provided by the organisers. Entering from the audience or any other area will not be permitted. If do so will result in disqualification of the contestant/team.
  19. If the competition is interrupted due to any reason beyond the control of the contestant, an opportunity will be provided to re-perform.
  20. Costume for Folk Dance must be in accordance of the item, which should be related with folk. And the spirit of folk dance must be preserved.
  21. For Oppana, singing and clapping with rhythm is the main element. Other than dance items,
    claps in inclined positions and round-ups are allowed. A bride should be there. Importance must be given to traditional costumes for Oppana.
  22. Performers in “Kaikottikkali” should wear a simple and traditional Kerala costumes and maintain the uniqueness of the art form. “Kuthuvilakku” will be provided by organizers.
  23. Shruthi/Thamburu can be used for carnatic music competition. Contestants can choose any “Ragam” they like. Raga, Kirtana, Niraval, Kalpanaswaram etc. all should be sing within a maximum time of 10 minutes.
  24. ‘Film Songs’ are not allowed for the Light Music competition. But if any song in Light Music category has appeared in films incidentally, the contestant will be considered for the competition if he/she proves it.
  25. The song which carry the message of national integration only to be sing as patriotic song. It can be from any other Indian language also.
  26. All members of group items must be within the age group of the respective group.
  27. Organizers will provide required paper for drawing and writing competitions. Competitors should bring pencil, pen, colours etc. The theme/subject for the drawing and writing contests will be given by the judges at the competition venue. Books, communication devices etc. are not allowed in the competition hall.
  28. For Drama competitions, a one-act play or a selected part of a lengthy drama is acceptable. More than one actor must be there in the drama. The maximum number of actors allowed is 7 on stage and 3 behind the screen. 5 minutes each will be given to set up and change the stage.
  29. For events requiring make-up, contestants must bring their own make-up artist and materials. Common make-up room will be provided by the organizers.
  30. The topic for the speech competition will be decided by the judges only 10 minutes before the competition.
  31. To find the contestants to participate in Utsav 2023, it would be better if each member association conducts preliminary competitions at associational level and try to bring the best performers to Utsav-2023.
  32. To participate in Utsav 2023, online registration can be done through www.myctma.org from your computer or mobile phone. After successful completion of registration, information will be sent as WhatsApp message to contestant’s mobile number.
  33. Self-attested copies of documents proving age and address in Tamilnadu of the candidates should be submitted along with the application. Birth Certificate, School/College ID Card, SSLC Certificate, Central/State Govt. issued ID Card, Driving Licence, Voter ID, Aadhaar are considered as proof of age. School/College ID Card, Voter ID, Ration Card, Central/State Govt. issued ID Card are considered as proof of address. Applications without passport size photograph with clearly visible face, photocopies of age and address proof documents will be rejected. Original documents must be produced on competition days if required by the organisers.
  34. Only those who have permanent residence in Tamil Nadu and are studying or working in Tamil Nadu are eligible to participate in the festival. If any contestant is found to be participating in the festival with hidden information, their participation will be cancelled.
  35. Names and dates of birth of all team members participating in group events must be mentioned with the application. Otherwise it will not considered. If team members participating in group events of one member association are found to be participating in group events of other associations, both associations concerned will be disqualified from the competition.
  36. The registration counter will open at 8 am on Sunday 25th June 2023 for literary competitions and 8 am on Saturday 8th July 2023 for stage competitions. Competitors or coordinators should register their names and receive chest numbers, food coupons etc.
  37. Each stage will have separate stage managers. Competitors must report to their respective stage managers at least 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time for each event.
  38. Utsav 2023 is a gathering of talented youth and children. Contestants need to develop the habit of accepting and encouraging each other. Each contestant needs to watch the other programs, whenever gets a gap from his/her program. All contestants must attend the opening ceremony on Saturday, July 8th morning and the prize-giving ceremony on the Saturday, July 8th evening and also on Sunday, July 9th evening.
  39. The organizing committee reserves the right to make necessary changes in the program as per the circumstances. Decisions of the Organizing Committee shall be final.
  40. The organizers insist that the judging should be flawless. Therefore, the best available judges will be appointed for each competition item. The decision/judgment of the judges will be final.
